EUROPHONIX  was the launch project for Creative Partnerships Kent.

Sound artist, Robert Jarvis, worked alongside students from three secondary schools on the creation and recording of a series of atmospheric compositions to be played to an invited audience as they travelled between Calais and Folkestone on the Eurotunnel train.

During the last seven weeks of autumn term 2002, students worked for one day a week on various listening and sound mapping exercises connected with the Creative Partnerships Kent theme of 'Home, Away and Journeys'.

The result of these sessions was a series of musical compositions and from these were selected the material for the travelling installation and for the content of the CD.

The Eurotunnel installation took place on February 19th, 2003.   Participants included members of Creative Partnerships central office, HM Treasury, DCMS, local artists, headteachers and, of course, the students who took part in the project.   Also involved were students from Creative Partnerships London East who photographically documented the project and Brockhill 'A'-level dance students who performed a dance-piece to one of the Europhonix compositions in Calais.

The project attracted extensive media coverage, with broadcasts on Meridian TV's 'Meridian Tonight news feature programme, BBC South East 'Breakfast' TV programme, BBC Radio 4 and KM Radio (CTFM, Neptune and TLR), as well as features in The Quarter, Sounding Board and The Sunday Times.
